Gene Barnes Scholarship Fund

TKE Mu-Omega Chapter has benefitted for nearly 40 years from the Gene Barnes Scholarship Fund (GBSF) named in honor of Frater Gene Barnes (Scroll #56) who died in 1982 at a young age after a battle with cancer. Gene served Mu-Omega after his collegiate years as a chapter advisor and was a mentor for many TEKEs. Please read more about Frater Gene authored by his long time friend and frater, Tom Cooney. This fund serves in a way to memorialize not only Frater Gene, but all 50 fraters who have passed to Chapter Eternal as well.

Since the establishment of the GBSF, Mu-Omega TEKEs have raised nearly $28,000 to benefit undergraduate chapter members. Having recognized 16 fraters over the years with a scholarship, the GBSF has funded in excess of $8,000.

Please consider donating to the fund directly at The Gene Barnes Scholarship Fund through the TKE Foundation Scholarships. Please be sure to select “Mu-Omega/Gene Barnes Scholarship” below your gift amount (see below screen shot). Also, did you know that forty percent of your annual dues goes to the GBSF as well? Since the association approved this use of funds in 2019, nearly $2,000 has been contributed to the GBSF.
