OK here’s the rundown

We’ll be setting up for the Tailgate at 10 AM in the tailgate lot, LOT A near the Patriot Center.

You should able to find us, just keep an eye out for the big association banner. If you can volunteer to bring a gas grill / tailgate grill please let me know.

The Tailgate will be from 10 until 1:45 or so, we’ll have to clean up the area prior to going in for the game at 2.

Then immediately following the game, we will head over to Brion’s Grille for a victory celebration. No party ticket price this year, I just ask that you all please pay your annual dues, a small contribution of $25 dollars goes a long way and will help us continue to plan big events in the future.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions

Mu-Omega Family Tree Project

Fraters Bill Farley and Andy Hight have volunteered to help us build a Family Tree of our chapter.
We have a spreadsheet setup that you can use to update your big brother information. Just find your name in the Little Brother column, and paste in your Big Brother’s name and scroll number exactly how it appears in the little brother column. It being exact is important because that is how we will complete the automatic linking for all 700+ Fraters in our chapter history.

Here is the spreadsheet.

Please update your record and anyone else’s info that you know. Thanks!

Description
The D.C. Capital Area Alumni Association (DCAA) is pleased to announce the 25th Anniversary of the association. A celebration event will be held Columbus Day weekend (October 9th and 10th). The main event will be a gala banquet to be held Friday evening, October 9 at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel (900 South Orme Street, Arlington, Virginia; discounted rooms are available at http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=0907102005&key=1EAF8).

The Sheraton is easily accessible from all points in the Washington Metropolitan Area and is in close proximity to the Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery, and Crystal/Pentagon City. The Association has reserved the rooftop ballroom for our event, and the views of our Nation’s Capital are spectacular from this vantage point.
So far, we have received commitment from a few of the Grand Officers, and expect attendees from the TKE Educational Foundation.

What we really need is for you to join us in this celebration. Your loyalty and support of our association in the past has meant much and has enabled us to endure for a quarter of a century. We are proud to have been awarded “TEKE Alumni Association of the Year” for multiple years, with the most recent award at this year’s Conclave.

Reserve your place today by completing the form at www.dcteke.org/25th. Payment for the event can be made via PayPal at www.dcteke.org, or by sending a check to:

Washington, DC TKE Alumni Association
9630 Milestone Way, Ste. 4057
College Park, MD 20740

It would be great to see a large contingent of our association’s members in attendance. We are also reaching out to more than 1,100 fellow Tekes who live and work in the DC area who are not currently members of our association. We truly hope that many of our Fraters will join us for this celebration and for our full year of events that we sponsor annually.

Please check out www.dcteke.org if you have not visited recently and see what you’ve been missing.

Annual Meeting Recap

I began the meeting by introducing the Board-Elect and thanking them for their hard work in getting us off the ground. I also introduced the current treasurer and vice president from the active chapter who were also able to join us at the meeting.

We established that we would like to participate in supporting the active chapter by participating in their philanthropy efforts whenever possible. The active chapter mentioned three upcoming philanthropies that they are going to be promoting: a walk for the Alzheimer’s Foundation, eating at Chili’s on September 28th to support St. Judes,  and also a Book Drive to support an effort by the US State Department to help rejuvenate public libraries in the salah ad din province of Iraq. TKE men have always kept helping others in our communities and around the world as a value very close to our hearts. Please keep an eye out for additional info on these programs to come shortly.

The Fraternity For Life ritual will serve as our Initiation for members of the Alumni Association. Members must be current on Alumni Chapter finances and RSVP by the due date in order to participate. This ritual will be held during a formal meeting, twice a year. Recent graduates and other alumni who have not yet attended the ritual, will renew their Bond to TKE as Alumni Fraters. The proposed date for this ritual to be held this semester is November 17, 18, or 19th… depending on availability of resources. This will be nailed down soon, as the event planning will require us to reserve a space that allows for complete privacy to preserve the integrity of ritual equipment. Any change to the schedule will be communicated via the appropriate channels, and a RSVP of attendance will also be distributed well ahead of the event.

I mentioned that I received a Fundraising plan that was put together by one of our members, that can be used as a resource whenever we work on programs to raise money for the association or to support philanthropies. This document will be kept on file and be made available to any committee members interested in using it.

The President and 25th Anniversary Chair of the DC Capital TKE Alumni Association, Tony Clemens and Gary Lazor, announced the upcoming 25th Anniversary Celebration Gala Banquet to be held in Arlington on October 9th. They extended an invitation to us all to attend the event. Mu Omega will be honored at this event with the presentation of our official Charter of recognition by TKE International HQ. Please RSVP and join us at the Gala Banquet http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=141377258454&index=1

A planning committee was formed to begin preparations for a 40th anniversary celebration for the Mu Omega chapter to take place this upcoming February in 2010. The planning committee consists of Billy Reilly, Scot Braun, Brendan Hill and Jim Winkler. They will be coordinating with the active chapter to team up on at least one big event, potentially even coinciding with GMU’s homecoming. Big thanks to these guys for volunteering.

Our Treasurer-Elect Steve Cheek shared his report on the alumni association’s finances. This report is on file and can be made available upon request.

Active chapter Crysophylos Mike Jenkins presented the Chapter Report, sharing the recent successes that they have accomplished and also informing us of their upcoming recruitment goals and schedule. It’s great to see our chapter still thriving on campus after 40 years and nearly 800 initiates into our Bond. This report will be kept on file and made available to any member interested in it.

Our Secretary-Elect Scott Kazem reviewed our three business items:
a. Increase Board to 9 members
b. Alignment of Officer positions with TKE National
c. Election of Board for terms of 1 year.
Each item passed voting.

The 2009-2010 Board consists of:
Christopher Hall – Prytanis
Kevin Geist – Epi Prytanis
Scott Kazem – Grammateus
Steven Cheek – Crysophylos
Billy Reilly – Hypophetes
Eric Mauthe – Histor
Pete Robertory – Pylortes
Mike Lamb – Hegemon

The ninth spot on the Board, while put into effect via the election will remain vacant, as it is intended to be filled by the Past Alumni Prytanis who has just relenquished his office of leadership, and we are on our first group of officers.

The floor was opened to anyone suggesting items for new business. Tom Block shared some information about the Blondes vs. Brunettes charity event. Please make an effort to support this cause as well.

The meeting was then adjourned and the members enjoyed extra time for camaraderie and networking.

The official minutes from this meeting will be kept on file with the secretary.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Fall Rush Shirt Design

Hello all,

The chapter is having rush shirts made this semester and wanted to make them available to alums if you would like one.  If you’re interested, please email Robbie Houser (robbiefresh.739@gmail.com) and include the number of shirts you want and the sizes you want. The recommended donation amount is $20-$25 per shirt going directly to the chapter to support their recruitment efforts. If you are not local to GMU, donations can be made via our paypal link and I’ll make sure they get fwd’d to the chapter. We’ll also work out the best way to ship you a shirt if necessary.

Here is the design, pick up a couple for you and your kids!

Upcoming Meeting Reminder and Request

Hey Fraters,

I hope you’re all enjoying your summers. I wanted to let you all know that I made it back safely from Conclave down in New Orleans. I’m so thankful to have been a part of such an incredible event.

I was able to witness the initiation of Tau Kappa Epsilon’s 250,000th frater in the bond: Forbes Magazine’s own Mr. Steve Forbes. I met fraters from all corners of our great country, and even a few that were our neighbors to the north from Canada. One of the heights of the trip was when nearly a thousand TKEs literally shut down city streets as we paraded through the french quarter.

I attended an Alumni Association development workshop, to learn what makes a successful group of alumni fraters who strive to contribute back to their fraternity. The panel was made up of the Presidents of Alumni Associations that had been around for decades, and also a few who had just started brand new associations of their own. I was able to take away a ton of ideas for how to help establish and sustain our group of men, and also how to achieve our ultimate goal:

To bring to new men the successes that TKE has brought us, through our support of each other and our active fraters in the bond.

In our pursuit of this goal, I’m looking forward to doing my best to help you all find the right level of contribution and activity in this effort. Since you were all man enough to step up and take our bond in this fraternity for life, I will be man enough to tell you all what we need and ask you for your support.

I am asking for each of you to:

  • contribute twenty five dollars for annual membership dues, and to donate more if you are able. This will help us pay for our fees and build a good size financial fund with which we can contribute to philanthropies and chapter support. Payments can be made online or via check to our treasurer, and will be accepted at the annual meeting prior to opening new business. http://muomegatke.com is our website, payments can be made via the paypal links at the top right.

  • attend the business meeting at Brion’s Grille at 7pm on September 15th, or attend by phone (conference call info will be sent out), or vote by email proxy on all motions be sent out. Your feedback will ensure that we operate to a level that is expected of us.

  • reach out to any fraters you are still in contact with that are not yet members and ask them to join us.

I will be sending out a few more reminders as the meeting approaches, specifically detailing the chapter’s planned fall rush activities and ways that we can help contribute to their recruitment success. Scott our secretary, will also be sending out a list of propositions to be voted on via proxy in case anyone is unable to attend the meeting…

Oh and one more thing… Initiation. Some of you haven’t participated in a TKE ritual in over 20+ years, and I want this to be the spark to reignite the TKE flame in all of us. Scheduling the Fraternity for Life Ritual to act as the initiation ceremony to our Alumni Association will do just that, and reward your renewed commitment to our bond by unveiling the final secret of Tau Kappa Epsilon. Putting this event on our Fall calendar will be a part of New Business at our Annual Meeting.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all, and thanks in advance for all your help and contributions.

Yours In The Bond,
Chris Hall
